Snow Days
Think back to when you were a young kid... What are some of your favorite memories throughout your childhood?
-The excitement of the first day of school?
-Going on vacation with your family?
-Getting to stay over with a bunch of your friends?
-Learning how to ride a bike?
-Building a fort in your house?
Some of these might bring back thrilling memories but at the top of my list was... Waking up in the morning and hearing that school was cancelled. School wasn't cancelled because of COVID or it being summer, it was cancelled because of the SNOW! Whether you have children/grandchildren or you still are a kid at heart, here are some places to check out around Indianapolis for sledding:
Fort Harrison State Park:
Also know as Fort Ben, this state park is originally known for being a Military camp/facility. It is located on the east side of Indianapolis in Lawrence. Not only does Fort Ben have several amenities for the warm weather like walking trails, golf course, bike trails, and a nature center, it also has some great hills for sledding. It is suited for all ages with the different sized hills it has (Even if you are scared about pulling a muscle and not making it to work tomorrow, but want to relive the glory days of being a kid!)
Garfield Park:
If you live near downtown or in the southern part of the city, this park is perfect to take the sleds! Garfield Park is the oldest park in Indianapolis and is an easy commute from the University of Indianapolis campus. Not many people can say that they went sledding at a National Register of Historic Places.
Flat Fork Creek Park:
Located on the north side in Fishers, this beautiful park offers a 60 foot sledding hill. That's right, 60 feet!!! Make sure to bring your driver's license with you if you do go because you may go over the speed limit with the speed going down that hill! If you aren't a winter or snow person, make sure to check out this charming park in the spring and enjoy time by the lake or riding your favorite bike trail.
Hummel Park:
We have covered the north, south and east sides of Indy so we cannot forget about the west side! If you are located near Plainfield, this park offers more than just disc golf and playgrounds. It has a wonderful sledding hill that is ideal for a day like today. The park has over 205 acres so you won't run out of things to see or places to sled.
