The Spring Market
Spring is just around the corner and what does that mean for Hoosiers?
- Warmer weather is on the horizon?
- Time to prepare for your gardening & landscaping?
- Spring break plans with your kids?
- Gearing up for outdoor openings like the zoo, Indians, Children's Museum and more?
- March Madness is getting closer?
Whatever comes to mind when you hear the word, "Spring" I am sure it can bring up old memories and get you excited to create new ones. One thing that comes to my mind when hearing the word, "Spring" is the real estate market. Are you thinking about selling your home in 2022 and are wondering when to sell your home? Are you currently in a lease that ends right before summer and are wanting to buy a home? Spring may be your best time. I don't believe in timing the real estate market perfectly and only narrowing your timeline to a certain season because you will never time it just right. However, spring is just around the corner and it represents a time where real estate activity begins to pick up.
So why is spring historically one of the busiest times throughout the year for home sales? Here are a few reasons why:
- The holidays are now behind us
- The curb appeal for homes is better than in the fall or winter months (Landscaping, gardening, etc.)
- Leases are ending so more buyers are entering the market
- The weather... Not only does it get warmer, we have more daylight too!
- $$$... Tax checks are in the bank and ready to be used
What can you takeaway from this? Buyers begin to come out more in the spring and are ready to buy. It may be the warmer weather and more sunshine or it may be there is more reserves in the bank, but demand typically increases throughout the spring months. The market also experiences an increase in inventory during this time with sellers wanting to take advantage of some of the reasons listed above and the increase in buyer demand.
**Seller Tip Alert**
If you are thinking about listing your home in the spring, the best time to prepare is not the first day of spring. The best time to get your home ready is NOW! Most realtors consider the start of the spring market in January or following the Super Bowl weekend. Why? As we have talked about in previous blogs, listing your home is not an overnight process. Repairs, cleaning, staging or moving, photos, ..... The list can go on and on. Your realtor is your teammate and they should help guide you through that checklist. But remember, the spring season may start in the end of March, yet now is the time to prepare or even get your home listed.
